I tried a few different things tonight taking photos. A couple of songs into the set list
it was apparent that the automatic settings were not doing very well for some reason
and were washing out the whites in the photos. The other thing that was happening
was that most of them were coming out blurry for some odd reason. I think it was mostly
because of using the zoom and also getting bumped around so much in my seat by
everyone having a good time. My hands were shaking, too, like they always do,
for the first few exciting songs getting into the set list.
So I switched over to (M)anual (M)ode, which I had adjusted earlier in the day to about 1/60th
of a second at F2.8. Even at those settings things were coming out a bit dark, so I quickly upped
the ASA/ISO rating from 200 to 400. I'm a big fan of 200 speed FILM for everything. I switched from 400
to 200 a long time ago and never use anything higher. The presence of a "grainy" look increases
dramatically with 400. And I guess that applies to digital photos as well.
I don't mind the grainy look to be honest. It is a very different look from other shows and photos
I have photographed, but it allowed me to zoom and capture some pretty in-focus shots
from quite a distance. It would have been nice not to have the grain, but again, it gives the
photos from tonight's performance a different feel, and me a different experience with the camera
and it's settings, which is just fine by me. I'm pleased with the results. I did switch back and forth
between (M)anual and (A)uto occasionally, mostly for the pulled back shots.
There are 36 photos in this slide show, hope you enjoy them. Please be respectful
and do not use any of the material here inappropriately. The photos do not belong
to you, I took them and they belong to RUSH. - jman2112
