Two pirates and lucky Rush fans Shawn and Kevin escape the wrath of Hurricane Alex on the East Coast, seeking refuge at at the Hi Fi Buys Amphitheater in Atlanta, Georgia after swimming ashore when Alex' pirate ship ran aground at the Outer Banks in North Carolina recently (8/04/04). Glad you four guys are safe! The ship will be towed to the Norfolk Naval Shipyard to undergo repairs, and will be re-commissioned in time for the Radio City Music Hall gigs. Also, see Kevin's story of the meet n greet below!

Well this is how that cool ass day came about. I am in the USAF,
stationed in Florida and Shawn lives in Memphis, Tenn. We have been Rush
fans since we were around 14 or 15 years old. We have seen many shows.
Shawn
more than I since I have a military commitment and it always seemed that
even
with all of the traveling around the country and world I do I never crossed
paths with many Rush tours. I believe I have been to 8 concerts, Shawn
probably 12.
Being that we both were within a half-day drive to Atlanta we
decided about a week before the show to see the best rock group in the world
one more time (we both saw Rush in Nashville for the opener of the 30th
Anniversary Tour).
The night before the Atlanta show we were at a restaurant and I was
wearing my Rush baseball jersey and as we were walking out a guy stopped me
and asked if we were there for the Rush concert the following night. We
told him yes, I thought he was just a fan but he said he was Rush's tour
manager and asked if we would like to meet the band. Holy crap yeah we
would like to meet the band!! He hooked us up with meet and greet passes
and the rest is history. So my $60 RUSH baseball jersey I bought at the
Nashville show really paid off.
What you heard is true, they take 2 pictures with a disposable
camera which they give to you to get developed. And yes the meet and greet
is a little rushed (no pun intended). We had a quick hand shake and a quick
hello. We were told no autographs, not sure if they normally give
autographs at the meet and greets or not but none for us. Well dude I am
sorry you haven't met the band yet, hopefully some day you will because with
a website like yours I think you deserve to meet them.
Meeting Geddy and Alex was a dream come true for us and fate was
on our side that night at the restaurant. If you would have told me last
week that I would shake hands and have my picture taken with them I would
have called you crazy, but dang it actually happened. I catch my self
shaking my head in disbelief while I look at the picture sometimes. I do
wish circumstances were better for Neil, I feel he would do more promos if
that were the case and he would of been in the picture.
That's all I have right now, I hope I hooked you up with a descent
story. Take care and keep up the good work. Kev.
