Rush’s world tour is over, there's a new Rush DVD and greatest hits album on the way and Rush just won yet another award. Lots n’ lots of Rush new for you.
First of all, the band has just gotten off of the tour they began back in June and are finally coming back home. In support of their latest album, Vapor Trails, which came out in May, Rush just ended the tour in Brazil where they played in front of the largest number of fans they’ve seen in their near 30-year career. This was their first time ever playing for tons of screaming Brazilians, so people packed into sold-out venues by the herds to see this legendary Canadian trio for the first time. In total, over 125,000 people attended their three dates in Brazil — the first in Porto Alegre on November 19, then Sao Paolo, and finally their last show, which was in Rio.
Their biggest show was in Rio, which drew in over 60,000 fans, so the band decided to document this doozy of a concert and share it with the rest of us. The performance is currently being edited for a home DVD with the release date to be announced shortly. The DVD will also include a bunch of behind the scenes stuff and a whole bunch of other crap as well.
Fans will also want to know that The Spirit Of Radio: Greatest Hits: 1974-1987, their new greatest hits album, is also coming out soon. February 11, 2003 is the release date for that disc.
Oh yeah, and when Rush played Madison Square Garden in New York as part of their tour this October, they were presented with a Recording Industry Association Of America award for selling over 25 million units in the U.S. They are the top-selling Canuck band in American history, and would have been the top selling Canadian artist of all time if it weren’t for those pesky Celine Dion and Shania Twain skanks.
