These pages and the way they are organized is almost like a look inside my head when it comes to things Rush. Everything is categorized, memorized, Animated, Polarized, Sensitized, Criticized, Civilized and presented in much the same way, and there's a lot of information, that's for sure! Kind of like a mental filing cabinet, if you will.
Instead of just doing photos and having little text, I tried to achieve a balance between text and images. That's what the Internet is all about, and that's what publishing is all about to me, so my site was almost like having my own newspaper, newsletter or fanzine of sorts. I like being Publisher, Managing Editor, Editor, Writer and Gopher all at once.
Development of any WWW site is challenging and time consuming. I spent many weeks and hundreds of dollars preparing this site. I literally drove people at the photo shop that I used to do enlargements crazy...I was going in there for weeks and weeks with new negatives to reprint, resize and finish.
Although there are a lot of web page development tools out there with text filters and easy page development tools, I preferred to code everything by hand. I wanted a home made feeling, not a machine tooled or manufactured one. It's kind of like growing your own vegatables or knitting your own sweaters.
I learned how to use different software and hardware applications, and development included the use of MS Notepad, Netscape Navigator 2.02, QuarkExpress 4.0, PhotoShop 6.0 and the images were scanned using a Hewlett Packard HPIIc Scanner. A combination of Windows/PC and Apple MacIntosh computers were utilized.
I'd also like to give credit where credit is due, so below is a list of people and places and things (nouns?) that influenced these pages and some of the best Rush memories anyone could hope to have:
2. As cheesey as it sounds: Alex, Neil and Geddy. Especially Geddy. He and I had A LOT of contact during the shows...I'm stoked that he recognized me show after show....
3. My co-worker Mark Waterhouse, for providing development of the animated gifs that appear here, for teaching me some HTML tricks and for being a great source of information and a friend.
4. Charles Colletti, Jimmy and Meg, Puanani, Tracy, Laurie, Sara, Joe and Lori and everyone else that I met at all the shows and over the Internet. What a cool bunch of people to travel with and see shows with. YEAH!
5. Ford Motor Company, for without the use of my Ranger with 120,000 miles on it and Tracy's Ranger while in San Diego, I would have never been able to travel so much and see the shows I did.
6. The Orbit Room...what a cool place. I'd be there all the time if I lived in Toronto.
7. Compaq Computers, Hewlett Packard and Netscape Communications, for without them this site would not have been possible...
8. Penn State University, for providing me the educational opportunities that will soon be invaluable to me.
9. My cats, Jinx and Jazz, who were next to me keeping me company during most of the development, and who's undying unconditional acceptance I will always cherish...
10. My home town of San Diego...man, do I miss that place!
